Baby named Dakota Grimes's was left inside a running car by her father, who stopped at a convinience store to grab something, unfortunately when he returned the car was stolen with the baby in it.
The incident happened at 1am when Dakota's father took his wife to work and stopped at the store to buy something when he returned few minutes laiter the car was gone with the baby in it. He called the police but they was a delay in sending out an Amber alert for the missing infant because according to the police who responded to the scene, they only collected few information because Dakota's father was frustrated and left.
However on the another scene few hours laiter a man named Gary Zielinski was visiting his friend known as Ray Harper and he nearly tripped over something, behold it was baby Dakota I front of Ray's porch. They called the police who responded immediately and interviewed the two men to make sure they weren't responsible for the car theft.
According to Ray who also has several children shortly after they discovered baby on his porch they received an Amber Alert about missing child and saw a news story about Dakota. They contacted authorities who Gary said they "came over here like flies."
Dakota's father isn't considered as a suspect and Dertoit Police Chief James Craig told reporters at the news conference that the infant was taken to local hospital after the incident, and she is perfectly fine.
He also added that Dakota's father left early filled with angered the initial report because the police scolded him for taking a baby out of home at the mid of the night.
“I will tell you and I explained it just this way to him, I said, ‘I’m angry with you. Why would you be out at 1 a.m. with a child?'”. “Now I understand he did drop the mother off, but it was not just so much being out at 1 a.m., it was the fact that he left the child in the car with it running. That’s a recipe for what? A bad situation.”
According to the Free Press, some complications did stall the police response. Craig said they would investigate what delayed the amber alert.
He said:
“So we’re right now trying to determine why there was a delay because of our own processes,” Craig told reporters. “So we’re trying to get to the bottom of that.”The stolen car remains missing, according to the police department’s Facebook page.
