TTCL which provides telephone services and network to private telephone companies will expel 400 workers, so as to increase its performance which now faces a lot of challenges from competitive private telephone companies.
Early last year, government decided to purchase 35% of TTCL stock which were owned by a large telephone company in India, Bharti Airtel and latter in May 2015 the deputy minister of Science and technology then, January Makamba told the parliament that the government is in its final preparations to purchase all stocks of TTCL company.
Source of information from TTCL company said the company has 1,500 workers, 400 among them will loose their jobs in the coming plan of controlling operations costs.
TTCL spokesman said:
"TTCL will ask for money to pay compensation to all 400 workers, who will be expelled. There are some workers who comes to the office and spend whole day without doing any work and at the end of the month they receive salary worth Tsh 800,000. Firing them is difficult but if TTCL will be helped by the government to do this, then we shall bounce back to a certain extent."
However TTCL chief executive officer Dr Kamugisha Kazaura said the preparations to reduce workers shall begin in April through a special inspection of human resource.
