One of the five mine victims rescued after 41 days Onyiwa Kaiwao aged 55 has died. The doctor in charge of Kahama district hospital Joseph Ngowi has confirmed the news. He said "Mr Onyiwa died yesterday around 12pm after he vomited when he was sleeping, something which caused some of his vomit to block air tubes plus the deceased was also suffering from Pneumonia."
Onyiwa family and other mine workers have received his death news with so much sadness. One of the mine workers by the name Hamza Tandiko said "we mine workers don't disagree with God Almighty work, we tried our best to save the lives of our fellows along with doctors from Kahama hospital, but God decided to take Onyiwa from us, nobody can prevent death, may he rest in peace."
However Dr Joseph said Onyiwe was not responding to treatment like other victims lately he had been producing stool full of tree roots which he was eating during the 41 days they stayed underground in the mine.
Five people were rescued after 41 days of living underground due to mine collapse in Kahama district at Shinyanga region. One of the six victims died before they were rescued. The remaining four victims are still under doctors observation and they seem to be responding to treatment. Dr Joseph promised to transfer them to regional hospital in case their health deteriorates.
