The deputy minister of Education, Science, Technology and Vocational Training Engineer Stela Manyanya has told Daily News that certificates of the foreign teachers in Tanzania will be well reviewed to prove if they truly qualify. However the private institutions which have employed foreign teachers must prove that the vacancies were advertised in the media and the decision of employing foreign teachers was taken after failing to secure local teachers to fill the vacancies.
Moreover Eng Stela said this review will help identify areas lacking qualified and experienced local teachers in all education levels. On the other hand she added the ministry is aware of some of primary academy schools tendency of employing foreign teachers to teach Swahili regardless of the fact that Swahili is the national language known by every native. Also some of foreign teachers from neighboring countries have no qualifications but they are employed to teach English simply because they can speak fluently English.
Nevertheless institutions and companies employing foreign workers were urged by the government to create a feasible work plan which will help to replace local workers on those posts after three two or three years.
