The Clerk of the National Assembly, Dr Thomas Kashilila, said in a statement that Mr Ndugai started with the Standing Orders Committee so that its members can be able to make necessary amendments in the parliamentary standing orders ahead of the next meeting.
“As an appointing authority under regulation number 116(3) of the House Standing Orders, the speaker has appointed 15 MPs, who will go through the current standing orders before suggesting some amendments that will accommodate the system of the current government as well as increasing efficiency on the responsibilities of Parliament,’’ said the House Clerk.
The Standing Orders Committee is led by the National Assembly Speaker, who is assisted by the deputy speaker. By virtue of their positions, the leader of official opposition in Parliament and the attorney general are automatic members of this committee.
The MPs who have been appointed to form the committee and their respective constituencies are Makame Kassim Makame (Mwera), Tundu Lissu (Singida East), Jasson Rweikiza (Bukoba Rural), Ally Saleh Ally (Malindi), Magdalena Sakaya (Kaliua) and Salome Makamba (Special Seats).
Others are Dr Jasmine Bunga (Special Seats), Zainab Katimba (Special Seats), Ambassador Adadi Rajab (Muheza), Dr Charles Tizeba (Buchosa) and Kangi Lugola (Mwibara).
The Speaker has directed the appointed MPs to meet at 11:00 am on Friday, this week, in the conference room at the Bunge offices in Dar es Salaam.
According to a statement, other parliamentary committees would be in place before MPs meet in Dodoma for the January 26th meeting.
In another development, the Clerk of the National Assembly has asked all MPs to be in Dodoma for the next parliamentary sessions by January 20 in order to begin committee meetings, ahead of the next sittings as well as preparing a strategic plan for 2016/2017.
However, CCM lawmakers have been told to be in Dodoma by January 17 in time for the party’s caucus ahead of parliamentary sessions.
