UNION presidential candidate on CCM ticket, Dr John Magufuli, has defended President Jakaya Kikwete’s foreign trips, saying those criticizing them, including politicians, should be ignored.
He said a number of development projects that have been implemented by the government were donor funded and there was no way such funding could be obtained without travelling overseas.
Addressing residents of Chamwino District at the Mvumi Mission Grounds, the presidential candidate said that a number of projects, including road networks that connect the whole country were due to such trips.
He noted that the recent move by the United States-based Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) to agree to release nearly 1 trillion/- for power projects was also a clear indication of positive results of such trips by the president.
He affirmed that it was absurd, cheap politics and illogical for anyone who is wise to blame President Kikwete over such trips as their results were crystal clear.
“We are now planning to electrify villages; we are going to use the MCC funds to achieve this; I am shocked by those who say that these trips are worthless,” he told his audience, cautioning them to shun politicians who criticise each and everything.
He noted that it was impossible for any person to stay indoors and yet wants to register development. A number of politicians, especially those from the opposition outfit, have been speaking ill of President Kikwete’s trips, saying that they were worthless.
