Roman Catholic Detective Sue His Ulster Protestant Boss For Harassment

A Roman Catholic detective is suing Scotland Yard for more than £200,000 over claims he was discriminated against by a senior officer who was a Northern Irish protestant.Detective Inspector Paul Armstrong, 50, claims he was targeted by senior officials within the Metropolitan Police Service because of his religion, race and disability. He alleges he was subjected to 'bullying and harassment' by his former line manager, Detective Chief Inspector Mark Roycroft - an Ulster Protestant who retired from the Met in 2012.Mr Armstrong claims DCI Roycroft treated him unfairly in an annual appraisal by making 'untrue and misleading' comments about him that were 'motivated by his sectarian bias towards Irish Catholics'. This is direct direct discrimination. He also claims that he was discriminated against between 2007 and 2013, when he took sick leave because of his clinical depression. It is alleged that 'without foundation' DCI Roycroft claimed he was drinking alcohol while on duty and was not keeping to his hours.Furthermore, Mr Armstrong claims, DCI Roycroft threatened to put him under covert surveillance and may have actually done so.
