THE National Muslim Council, BAKWATA, which met in Dodoma, has elected Sheikh Abubakary Zubeiry as Chief Mufti. Sheikh Zubeiry was picked Acting Chief Mufti on June 22 following the death of Mufti Issa Shaaban Bin Simba.
According to BAKWATA constitution, the acting mufti was supposed to run the office for 90 days before an election was called to permanently fill the vacant post.
Speaking shortly after being announced the new Mufti, Sheikh Zubeiry called on Muslims in the country to jointly pray for peace as the country inches closer to the general election.
He said that the country was passing at a time that religions had a very important role to play to ensure that the long-cherished peace and unity remain cemented.
“Every person in the country is supposed to make sure that he or she plays a role towards keeping peace and stay away from acts which can plunge the nation into chaos,” the newly-elected Mufti noted.
He called on Muslims in the country to show him full cooperation as he was going to work hard to see all Muslims remain united and ethical.
