In 1980's Rene discovered Celine singing talent and he began to manage her, this happened after one of Dion's 13 siblings sent a tape of a then 12-year-old Celine singing to Angélil, the well-known music manager invited her to audition in Quebec. "While I was singing, he started to cry," Celine has said "I knew then I had done a good job." In 1981, Angélil even mortgaged his house to finance her album and took the teen and her mother on tour in Canada, Japan, and Europe.
In 1987 the secret romance began between them although Celine was scared to reveal to people due to their age difference, but when she was 19 she broke the news to everyone through a song titled "the colour of my life".
Then in 1994 they got married in a lavish wedding ceremony, their wedding was televised in a Canadian television station.
During 1997 and 1998 Celine Dion became more famous and she began to receive Grammy and Academy award on her album "beauty and the beast" as well as the hit song "my heart will go on".
However the couple received bad news as Rene was diagnosed with cancer in 1998 but he was declared cancer free in 2000. Then the couple began to build their family by having their first child and later twin boys.
However in 2013 Rene's cancer return and the couple has been battling with it untill now, Celine had to put her carrier on hold for sometime to take care of her husband. Recently Celine perfomed in Las Vegas and she said she didn't wanna perform but her husband pushed her to do it. Rene is still on tubes feeding and Celine said sometimes he is scared but she is always trying to be supportive of him.
