Special Zanzibar CCM Comittee Salutes Dialogue

Members of the special Zanzibar committee of the CCM National Executive Committee (NEC) commended ongoing efforts to resolve the stalemate arising out of the general election in Zanzibar, whose results were nullified. The committee, chaired by President Ali Mohamed Shein, and also attended by Union Vice President Ms Samia Suluhu Hassan, also directed party members and Zanzibar is to prepare for fresh elections on the date to be announced by the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC).

In a press communiqué signed by the Secretary for Ideology and Publicity, Ms Waride Bakar Jabu, committee members also congratulated Union President John Pombe Magufuli for his election victory.

“The NEC-Zanzibar members also commended ongoing efforts to rebuild CCM done by ministers in both the Union and Zanzibar governments,” reads the statement.

The special committee also observed that the current negotiations between Dr Shein and Mr Seif Sharif Hamad of the Civic United Front (CUF) on the nullified elections were a positive development.

The Chairman of the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC), Mr Jecha Salim Jecha, nullified the elections last month, citing massive cheating. But the CUF has since then disputed and opposed fresh elections.

The special committee is formed by NEC members from Zanzibar who, according to the party’s constitution, have to discuss issues concerning the Isles before communicating to the CCM Central Committee.
