Honourable Wasira Rejects Bunda Results

The outgoing Bunda legislator and former Minister for Agriculture, Food Security and Cooperatives, Mr Stephen Wassira, has rejected the election results that were announced on Monday by the constituency returning officer in favour of Ms Esther Bulaya of Chadema, citing various irregularities.

Bunda urban returning officer Lucy Msofe announced last Monday that Bulaya won the election by 28,510 votes beating Wassira who managed 19,126 votes in a hotly contested election which was conducted peacefully.

NEC Gives Presidential Winning Certificate to Dr John Pombe Magufuli

NEC chairman Judge Damian Lubuva has given the certificate of winner to the new Tanzania elected president Dr John Pombe Magufuli in a ceremony at Diamond Jubilee Dar Es Salaam city. Dr Magufuli running mate Mrs Samiah Suluhu was also given a certificate. The event was witnessed by different guests including international observers Nigeria Formal President Goodluck Jonathan, business leaders, ambassadors, government officials, and citizens. NEC Declares Dr John Magufuli as the Winner for Tanzania Generel Election 2015

NEC chairman Judge Lubuva has announced that Dr John Pombe Magufuli is the winner for Tanzania general election 2015 which was done on 25th October 2015. Judge Lubuva said that after announcing the election results for 264 constituencies from Monday 26th October up to today 29th October, on the behalf of the Commision he is declaring Dr Magufuli the winner.

Union Tanzania Presidential Candidate Edward Lowassa Denounces Results

The Coalition of Four Opposition Parties, UKAWA, has expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing Union presidential results tallying being announced by the National Electoral Commission (NEC), claiming that there were signs of vote rigging. Addressing reporters in Dar es Salaam, Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA), presidential candidate, Mr Edward Lowassa said that they would thus not accept the presidential results.

James Mbatia Beats Vunjo Outgoing MP Augustino Mrema

 NCCR Mageuzi chairman, James Mbatia, has emerged a winner of Vunjo seat after defeating a long time politician Augustine Mrema of Tanzania Labour Party (TLP)

The election results show that Mr Mbatia representing the coalition of four party (Ukawa) garnered 60,187 votes while his close rival Innocent Shirima of CCM 16,617 votes and Mr Mrema, the incumbent got merely 6,416.

This is the second time for Mr Mbatia to become Vunjo MP. The first was in 1995 when the multiparty system was reintroduced after abolished in late 1960s.

South African Students Continues Fees Protest

Some South African students are continuing university fee protests, despite the president agreeing to freeze increases. Three universities remain closed, with students demanding free quality education for all. 

The protests started last week when university management announced a 10-12% increase in fees. They have been the biggest student protests to hit the country since apartheid ended in 1994.

Police Praise Voters For General Calmness

Police praised voters for general calmness and peaceful voting exercise. Police officers at Kilakala and  Kigunga polling stations said voters were following directions given to them by the election and police officers in majority of polling stations.

An election observer team has in its preliminary assessment described the general election held countrywide as ‘orderly, calm and peaceful.’
Ms Judith Sargentini, the Chief Observer at the European Union Election Observation Mission in Tanzania 2015, told the ‘Daily News’ in Dar es Salaam that by 2pm today, they had visited 400 polling stations on the Mainland and Zanzibar where they observed people patiently lining up and waiting for their turn to vote.

EU Chief Election Observer to Meet Journalists

 

THE European Union Election Observation Mission, Chief Election Observer Judith Sargentini, will visit polling station in Dar es Salaam on Sunday and hold interviews with journalists in scheduled polling stations.

According to a statement issued by European Union (EU), the scheduled polling stations where the EU Chief election observer will be able to talk to journalists are Kisutu Ward, Ilala constituency, at Kisutu Primary Schools A-1,2,3,4 between 10.00am and 11.00am in the morning and in Msasani Ward, Kawe constituency, at Oyster Bay Primary School C-1,2,3 at 3.15pm and 4pm in the afternoon.
