Kokugonza is an artist based in Chicago USA, she use the name Koku as an artist to maintain her roots which is Haya tribe from Tanzania. Koku has been featured in the musical series "Empire" and since then many people have recognised her. As an artist Koku plays guitar and piano, her role in Empire is to teach Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) how to play piano.
Koku realised her first album "Love" in 2011 which debuted in BET international, channel O and other media outlets. She also did a successful tour in Southern France in that same year.
Well she is based in U.S. Probably can't speak any Swahili, but the fact that she keeps her native name to maintain her roots makes us Tanzanians to be really proud of her. It's for sure that as a growing artist she will continue to make Tanzania popular worldwide.
