Youth Accused of Insulting President Magufuli Pleads "Not Guilty"

Isaac Emily was taken to court yesterday after he was accused of insulting president Magufuli through social media. The resident of Olasiti in Arusha city was told his charges by police prosecutor Gaudencia Masanja, in front of the judge in charge of regional court Augustino Rwezile.

Emily is accused of committing the crime on March 17, 2016 which is against the Cyber Law of 2014, section no 14. Masanja said on that day the accused distributed false information through social media, for the purpose of contempting, mocking and abuse president Magufuli.

The 40 year old distributed information through social media (Facebook) which ready "these are political dramas, then why do you compare this useless/stupid (bwege) with Nyerere." Emily pleaded "Not Guilty."

However police prosecutor asked the court not to grant him bail regardless of the fact that bail it's his right, for the sake of his safety since majority of citizens aren't pleased with the information he circulated; also he may interfere police investigation and temper with evidence.

Nevertheless Emily didn't agree with the police prosecutor, he said all his phones have been confiscated by Police so he can't temper with the evidence or interfere investigation. He also insisted that he will be safer if he is granted bail not otherwise.
