Citizens Block Paved Road Claiming Road Bumps

Citizens of Sombetini ward in Arusha city blocked paved road yesterday claiming road bumps due to regular accidents. This incident created a huge traffic jam because cars couldn't pass untill when political leaders of the respective place and police force arrived in the scene.

Speaking to the leaders, citizens said they are fed up of regular accidents happening on the road just because the road has no bumps or any road marks to direct drivers. Many pedestrian have been hit and died on that road.

Moreover Councilman of Sombetini ward Ally Benanga said "the citizens of this ward are tired of regular death caused by car accidents on that road, and they have submit their complains to their respective local authority for some time now, but nothing has been done."

On the other hand Mayor of Arusha city Calist Lazaro said "in the meeting of all councilmen it was decided that this road should be renovated, speed bumps and all road marks should be placed, now we want this work done as quickly as possible."

"We can't tolerate pedestrian being hit due to this road lack of bumps and road marks, so we want it renovated, within five days from today" He added

Resident of Sombetini ward Jane Maeda, said almost every week a pedestrian is being hit by a car on that road, especially children and students so it's better for the road to be closed completely than to endure death every week.

However after a detailed discussion between Sombetini residents and Authorities an agreement was reached and residents removed stones they used to block the road. Nonetheless Arusha city  contractor Gaston Gasana said the road in Sombetini ward will be renovated within five days as directed by the Mayor of the city.
