Oscar Pistorius Sentenced to Six Years in Prison

Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to six years in prison, for the murder of his late girl friend Reeva Steenkamp. Pistorius was facing up to 15 years in prison but the judge gave him six years citing  'substantial and compelling reasons' as main factors for deviating from 15 years.


One of the factors the judge put into consideration is the  continuing misperception that Pistorius intended to kill his girlfriend Reeva. The judge also said giving him 15 years will not serve justice as Pistorius is already a broken man and fallen hero.

Steenkamp family seemed satisfied and grateful for the six years sentence given to Pistorius however they didn't give any public statement.

Pistorius may get parole for good behaviour after he served 3rd of his sentence which is just two years.
