Human Rights Commission Condems Detention of Public Servants

Human Rights Commission has condem decisions made by District Commisioners (DC) of punishing public workers who are lait to report to work to be detained in a police cell.The commission said operational mistakes should be punished basing on public service laws.


Human rights commission report has mention few incidents which are completely against human rights. These incidents include the decision of Kinondoni District Commisioner Paul Makonda, who ordered land officers who were lait to report to their office to be detained in the police cell for six hours.

Another incident is that of Musoma District Commisioner, who ordered the arrest and detention of ward health officer for not abiding to president Magufuli order of supervising cleanness in his ward on 9 Dec.

Human Rights Commision said it's important to provide disciplinary punishment to public servants basing on Public service laws, instead of detaining them in police cell like criminals. Moreover all public leaders are required to abide to human rights laws as illustrated in the constitution.
