The Coalition of Four Opposition Parties, UKAWA, has expressed dissatisfaction with the ongoing Union presidential results tallying being announced by the National Electoral Commission (NEC), claiming that there were signs of vote rigging. Addressing reporters in Dar es Salaam, Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA), presidential candidate, Mr Edward Lowassa said that they would thus not accept the presidential results.
There is enough evidence that the results have been rigged by NEC officials in collaboration with the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM),” said Mr Lowassa. He said the results are being prepared in favor of CCM candidate, Dr John Magufuli, to win the election.
The presidential candidate pointed out that in some of the constituencies Chadema’s results had been reduced and added to the CCM candidate automatically through the system they were using to feed in data.“
Some constituencies that have been announced by the electoral commission do not tally with votes that were cast in different areas and there is proof to that because we have the forms that our representatives signed after vote counting,” he said.
Mr Lowassa added that in all constituencies where UKAWA parliamentary candidates emerged winners NEC has delayed issuing the results. He said rigging of the results started when the police invaded the opposition party’s (Chadema) tallying center and arrested their IT experts who were tallying the party’s own results.
His running mate, Mr Juma Haji Duni, noted that during the electoral process a lot of faults such as ballot papers, boxes and bogus votes marred the exercise but it is surprising that NEC has not spoken about the matter or refuted the allegations.
“Sample of constituencies for which we would not agree with the results because more votes had been added to Magufuli’s votes are Makunduchi with 2,550, Kiwengwa 5,889, Donge 303 and Kuhani 2,334,” said Mr Duni.
